Hipster sheep

This is an illustration for a presentation I will be giving at the upcoming conference Staging Sustainability. If visual art doesn't get too many mentions in the sphere of sustainability science, craft gets even less. So, I'll be speaking briefly about craft, craftivism, and the recent resurgence of the handmade movement and what it all means for sustainability.

This is my hipster sheep in his stylish scarf. I chose a sheep because of the whole wool connection. I didn't realise quite how sardonic the title sounded until later. And now it just makes me giggle, so hipster sheep it is.



This was done using a combination of watercolour, gouache, and a lot of India ink. The sheep's scarf is actually made from a thrifted, vintage silk scarf, overlaid with gloss medium and paint.
